Saudi Arabia will boost economic ties with Syria which should creates jobs for Syrians. Western sanctions imposed on the war-torn country were eased earlier this month after an announcement by U.S. President Trump during a trip the Saudi capital Riyadh.

This latest announcement of cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Syria came during a visit to Damascus by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, who met Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa as well as other Syrian officials.

The easing of Western sanctions is likely to open the way for other foreign investors. Syria has been witnessing a civil war that broke out in March 2011. The Assad family fell in early December when gunmen opposed to Assad captured his seat of power in Damascus.

The Saudi foreign minister said that the easing of sanctions by the U.S., the EU and Britain earlier this month would help to "restart the Syrian economy, which has been paralyzed for decades".
