A China Southern Airlines flight made an emergency return to Hangzhou shortly after takeoff.
This after a battery and portable charger brought onboard by a passenger began to emit smoke. Online footage shows smoke filling the aircraft cabin.
China Southern Airlines reported that it happened at about 10 a.m. on a flight from Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport to Shenzhen Bao'an Airport. A passenger's camera battery and a power bank began to emit smoke shortly after takeoff.
After the crew handled the situation and ruled out further safety risks, the flight landed safely back in Hangzhou.
Under Chinese aviation rules, each passenger can carry on board one portable charger, which must not be used during the flight and cannot be stored in checked baggage.
