The Centre for Health Protection says local COVID activity has started to decline from its recent peak.

But it's expected to stay at elevated levels for the time being.

Wastewater surveillance data showed a drop in virus concentrations across several districts. The percentage of positive COVID results in respiratory samples also fell -- from 13.8 percent the week before to just over 11 percent last week.

Visits for COVID symptoms at public outpatient clinics and private doctors also declined.

CHP said that while the data points to a downward trend, past patterns suggest it may take another month or two before infection levels fall significantly.

The centre urges continued monitoring and preventive measures, especially for vulnerable groups.
