Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his counterparts from 11 Pacific nations and pledged to offer them more support in fields including climate change response and maritime trade.

The Third China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in the coastal city of Xiamen on Wednesday.

The high-level event was co-chaired by Wang and Kiribati's President and Foreign Minister Taneti Maamau.

It is the first in-person gathering since its inauguration in 2021.

Wang noted all parties exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and reached consensus in five aspects.

This include advocating for equal treatment and common development, upholding fairness and justice, embracing openness and inclusivity, and further strengthening mutual learning and civilisational exchanges.

Top diplomats from the Pacific Island countries thanked China's long-term support for their development and emphasised the cooperation is based on mutual respect, independent decision and sovereign equality.

They unanimously reaffirmed commitment to the one-China principle.
