Police in Liverpool have been given more time to question a man who has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and driving under the influence of drugs.
A 53-year-old British man from the area has been in custody since he drove a people carrier into the crowd at a victory parade for Liverpool Football Club. Police say the car followed an ambulance through a lifted road block.
The medical team was on its way to treat a suspected heart attack. Fifty people were hospitalised with injuries after being rammed by the vehicle.
Jack Trotter, who was hit by the car, says: I sort of put the phone down and looked up. And then basically what happened was the car just started ramming through people. He had hit me and then, like when he had hit my legs, I just basically sort of spun around. So I had just about dodged him at all of the bonnet, and then he clipped my legs to sort of the side of his bonnet.
His girlfriend Abbie Gallagher adds:So I pushed off his bonnet and I couldn't find Jack. It was a good five minutes of looking for Jack. It was screaming and crying, absolutely traumatised. People were running everywhere, not knowing where anybody was. And all heard, Jack was shouting, 'I'm here, I'm here!' And we ran up and he hugged me.
