Every day, thousands of meals are prepared for flights soaring 30,000 feet in the air, but not all are consumed.
In view of that, Cathay Pacific has worked to put the leftovers to better use -- an endeavour that has benefited more than 260,000 people.
The city's flagship carrier and Feeding Hong Kong have been collecting unopened items, from drinks and snacks to fresh fruit, from arriving flights since 2014.
They are then sorted at a climate-controlled warehouse in Yau Tong, where volunteers carefully inspect each item for safety. Over the past 11 years, the programme has recovered 2,250 tonnes of food.
Cathay's spokesperson said the airline has set sights on scaling up the donation efforts beyond food to include inflight hygiene products.
