As part of land resumption work for the Northern Metropolis development, the government is proceeding with site clearance.
A church in the neighbourhood is facing demolition, and its pastor is urging the government to provide clear relocation arrangements as soon as possible.
At this branch of the Hong Kong Evangelical Lutheran Church, located in Kwu Tung, Sunday worship was held in the morning. But it may be among the last few services here.
Earlier, it received a resumption notice from the government, which includes a compensation offer of 12 million dollars and assistance in applying for two alternative sites. But church leaders say relocation plans remain unclear.
Public documents indicate affected parties must vacate between June and November. Nearly 100 worshippers have written letters to the Development Bureau, calling for clarification.
Apart from the congregation, affected resident Mrs. Chan said her hands were swollen from all the packing but the saddest part is being forced to move away.
The Development Bureau said that it has maintained communication with the church and will continue to offer assistance.
