Sunday, May 25th, marks the fifth anniversary of the death of George Floyd, a Black American who died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck during an arrest.

Video of the incident went around the world, with protests erupting in Minnesota and across the U.S. Police officer Derek Chauvin was charged with murder over Floyd's death and three other officers were criminally charged.

Anger over the deaths of Black men in police custody had long been simmering, and the pandemic lockdowns provided the conditions for a flashpoint.

Mobs gathered and set alight the Minneapolis Third Precinct police station. Floyd's death became a symbol of the Black Lives Matter movement and police brutality against minorities.
