Starting from the 15th of next month, the Police will start issuing electronic penalty tickets for traffic violations.
Hand-written penalty tickets will gradually become part of history, to be replaced by paperless, electronic penalty tickets.
From the 15th of June onwards, officers will send out e-tickets for traffic violations such as illegal parking and speeding.
E-version and hand-written version penalty tickets contain basically the same information, both listing details such as plate number, information about the violation, penalty amount and deadline for payment.
To pay the penalty, vehicle owners can input the information via designated websites and mobile applications. They can then pay via various electronic means, such as FPS or credit card. Paper tickets will still be used during the early stages of the e-ticket era.
Nip Hoi-kwan, Superintendent, Traffic Management, HKPF, said: "We didn't set a definite time to end this transitional period because we want to observe the performance of our system and how the citizens receive our FPN digitalisation. At this moment, we don't have an actual time to stop this transitional arrangement. But rest assured that before we stop this arrangement, we will have sufficient publicity to allow our citizens to get used to the new ticket mechanism."
In the long run, the authorities said the measure is expected to foster a better driving attitude, which is conducive to reducing traffic accidents and illegal parking.
