A 43-year-old construction worker died from suspected heatstroke at the Phase 2 redevelopment site of Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin.
The Hospital Authority has referred the case to the Coroner for follow-up investigation.
Police received a report at around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, saying a 43-year-old male worker fainted from suspected heatstroke.
The man was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital's A&E department for treatment and was later pronounced dead.
Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victimssaid the man took a rest after feeling unwell, but his condition suddenly deteriorated and he collapsed.
Referring to what the police had told them, the victim's family said the man's body was stiff before being sent to the hospital.
The family questioned if the man's rescue time had been delayed.
Sources say the man was working with eight to 10 other colleagues when the accident happened.
However, the colleagues did not realise the worker had fainted and did not report it to the police until 30 minutes later.
While the Observatory issued the Very Hot Weather Warning in the afternoon, the Labour Department did not send out the Heat Stress at Work Warning.
The association said authorities should implement a dual-track system -- they cannot just rely on one signal.
