The Housing Department and Hong Kong Housing Society last year cracked down on 42 public housing abuse cases in which tenants possessed property on the mainland.
According to the "Well-off Tenants Policies," public rental housing residents are not allowed to own domestic property in Hong Kong, while those who have a flat on the mainland should make a declaration to officials, who will assess if asset levels exceed relevant limits.
The Housing Department said 26 households were confirmed to have concealed their ownership of property on the mainland.
All flats were retracted.
Meanwhile, another public housing provider, Hong Kong Housing Society, also found that 16 tenants owned property in the mainland.
Of these, one tenant voluntarily surrendered their unit, 10 remain within asset limits and five are still under investigation.
