Police arrest five locals in connection with cannabis and cocaine trafficking

Police say they have cracked a drug trafficking syndicate and arrested five people. The quintet are alleged to have conspired and trafficked in dangerous drugs.

Authorities seized 102 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds and three kilograms of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of over 23.5 million dollars.

On Friday, the force intercepted parcels in Pat Heung, Yuen Long, which had been sent from Canada. 

The drugs were found inside the packages, which also contained industrial vacuum cleaners. 

Authorities found 150 bags of suspected cannabis buds inside the vacuum cleaners and arrested two men who came to unpack the parcels.

On the same day, two other men and one woman were arrested in Sha Tin. One man was said to be the "mastermind of the syndicate". 

One male suspect is alleged to have been carrying three kilograms of cocaine when he was stopped by the police.
