Reports say Hang Seng Bank has undertaken an extensive layoff action in multiple departments as part of its overhaul.

Citing sources, local media reported that the layoffs, which started in March, span across various departments, including logistics, strategy and corporate development, information technology, communications, as well as the company's flagship Hang Seng Index.

Relevant departments slashed about 10 to 20 percent of staff, with some firing nearly half of their workforce.

Both senior and junior employees were affected, and the layoffs are expected to complete by the end of June.

A spokesperson for Hang Seng Bank said the company regularly reviews its business portfolio and operations and will make appropriate adjustments, such as optimising functions, adjusting business structures and upskilling staff, in a bid to better serve its clients.
