Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is on a five-day visit to China, arriving late last night at the invitation of President Xi.
Both leaders had been in Moscow this week for Victory Day.
Lula says he wants to establish new partnerships.
China has recently increased imports of Brazilian soybean and is in discussions to build a rail link between Brazil and Peru.
