The Hong Kong Observatory is forecasting a sharp drop in temperature overnight, with early Sunday morning expected to dip below 20 degrees Celsius -- potentially making it the coldest Mother's Day since 2000.

Temperatures remained hot on Saturday with afternoon highs exceeded 30 degrees in several districts.

But a cold front will bring a sharp overnight drop in the mercury, bringing cooler mornings to southern China over the next couple of days.

Temperatures are expected to gradually fall to a low of 19 degrees by Sunday morning.

With wide temperature fluctuations ahead, the Observatory is reminding the public to keep warm.
