Russia celebrated the 80th anniversary of victory in World War Two with a massive military parade in Moscow's Red Square, attended by guests from around the world.
Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the contribution of the Allied armies in fighting militarism and fascism and helping to defeat Nazi Germany in the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War.
President Xi Jinping was sitting next to Putin during the event.
Vladimir Putin presided over a grand military parade in Moscow's Red Square as he hailed the millions who sacrificed their lives for victory in World War Two.
In an address to thousands of soldiers and dignitaries, Putin attributed the final defeat of Nazi Germany, militarised Japan and their satellites to the joint efforts of allied forces.
Putin highly appreciated the contribution of the soldiers of the Western Allies and the Chinese people, and noted, "The Soviet Union took upon itself the most ferocious, merciless blows of the enemy."
The Soviet Union lost more than 20 million people in World War Two, which is officially remembered in Russia as the "Great Patriotic War" of 1941-45.
A one-minute silence dedicated to the victims was held. More than 10,000 soldiers participated in this year's procession.
The Chinese People's Liberation Army was among the military units from 13 countries that took part in the parade.
President Xi Jinping and about two dozen leaders from other countries, including Belarus, Brazil and Slovakia, joined Putin in the celebrations.
The parade featured time-honoured weapons from World War Two such as T-34 tanks.
Iskander short-range ballistic missiles, S-400 air defence missile systems, the "Yars" continental ballistic missile systems, the combative drones such as "Geranium-2" and "Orlan" were also among the military equipment on display.
The drones on display were reportedly used in Russia's war in Ukraine, according to Russia's state media.
Xi, who is on his 11th visit to Russia since 2013, was a guest of honour at the parade.
