New Zealand's Justice William Young is set to join the city's Court of Final Appeal as a non-permanent judge. This after Chief Executive John Lee accepted Young's appointment, which now needs Legislative Council endorsement.

The 73-year-old Young retired from the judicial office of Permanent Judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in April 2022.

In a statement, Chief Executive John Lee said he had accepted Young's appointment recommended by the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.

Chief Justice Andrew Cheung welcomed the CE's acceptance of the appointment. Young's appointment will increase the number of non-permanent judges from five to six.
