Russia is set to celebrate its Victory Day on May 9. TVB News went to Moscow and spoke to some citizens who expressed hope that the Russia-Ukraine war will end soon.
This as the People's Liberation Army from China is set to take part in Moscow's parade.
In Moscow, flags aflutter, bearing the word "Victory" in Russian, commemorating "Victory Day" in Moscow on May 9th 1945, which marks the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's role in defeating Nazi Germany in the "Great Patriotic War."
At Moscow's Red Square, where the Victory Day military parade is set to take place, students from various parts of Russia have come to pay tribute.
MARINA ORLOVA: "So this victory day is very important for every Russian person because we celebrate, I celebrate it my whole life. My grandmother used to be in the war. Every war finally finished in peace. So we really pray this day will come soon because everybody is tired and wants to see clear sky above our heads."
ALEXANDER: "Our historical celebration, and we are happy to live in Russia."
Veterans from the war, including this 99-year-old, are about to join the celebration.
He said the day is filled with joy after they made much effort to achieve victory.
The Guard of Honour of the Chinese People's Liberation Army will participate in the Victory Day military parade on Moscow's Red Square.
They were greeted with much fervour by locals and Chinese students in Russia.
This PLA guard said he was filled with pride upon hearing the patriotic songs on the streets of Moscow.
During the rehearsal of the parade, the network signals in Moscow halted service -- with shops in the vicinity suspended operations. Locals described the security as the tightest in recent years.
