Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in Washington on Monday ahead of talks with US President Donald Trump. The two leaders will meet on Tuesday.
The Canadian leader won in his country's recent elections on the platform of standing up to Trump, who has said he wants to make Canada the 51st state and charged tariffs that put the two countries into a punishing trade war.
"I'm not sure what he wants to see me about," Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday. "But I guess he wants to make a deal."
