A flag-raising ceremony was held in Wan Chai today to mark the 106th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement.
The ceremony took place at 8 a.m. at Golden Bauhinia Square. More than 1,200 students attended the event this year. Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan was among top government officials present.
The event also commemorates the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The May Fourth Movement started in Beijing in 1919. It was a political event triggered by the decision of the Versailles Peace Conference to transfer the former German concessions in Shandong Province to Japan.
