Macao seeing strong visitor number on the first day of the Golden Week holidays

On the first day of the Golden Week in the mainland, there was a marked increase of travellers heading to Macao.
A marked surge of tourists entering Macao could be seen at the border checkpoints.
This year, the Macao government continues last year's measure to provide free bus and ferry services to international visitors to Macao over the holiday.
Many mainland tourists said they visited Zhuhai before heading to the enclave while some international tourists said they headed to Macao after visiting Hong Kong.
SVIATOSLAV, Russian Tourist: "Because the ferry tickets are sometimes sold out and you have buy them on sales there are out of the queue. I guess they are free. That's great."
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority said with the increased demand for cross-border travel between the three places during the holiday, from May 1 to 5, tolls for private cars with 7 seats or less will be waived.
It also marks the first time that a temporary pedestrian area has been set up in the vicinity of Rua da Cunha in Taipa, Macao. Some merchants expressed hopes that the zone will help bring in more business.
