Baby boy in critical condition after COVID infection

A 16-month-old baby boy is in critical condition and is treated in the Intensive Care Unit after being infected with both COVID-19 and nasal or enterovirus, alongside croup complications.
The 16-month-old toddler developed fever, shortness of breath and wheezing yesterday and sought medical attention from two private doctors on the same day.
Preliminary investigations showed he had not been vaccinated against the coronavirus and had traveled to Taipei during the incubation period.
Two of his household contacts tested COVID-positive.
One of them shows respiratory symptoms.
The Centre for Health Protection said sewage surveillance has shown the local prevalence of XDV, a variant associated with COVID variant JN.1, is on the rise.
