Some Hong Kong students studying in the United States said some of their classmates from China, Africa and India, have had their student visas revoked without being given a reason.
Ashley, a Ph.D. student in Ohio, said her classmates whose visa status got terminated have records of being ticketed for speeding and illegal parking.
She said some also wondered if that's because they took part in on-campus demonstrations.
Ashley said her supervisor told her she would still be able to complete her studies if her visa is revoked by finishing her dissertation remotely.
A Hong Kong education consultant said the United States is not the most preferred place for Hong Kong people to study abroad so the impact is not huge.
He believes the Trump administration wants to send a message that if you come to the States to study, you should focus on studying -- and not mess around.
He added some second- and third-tier universities in the U.S.will lose some international student intake because of the policies and more mainland students would consider Hong Kong and Singapore more as an option for overseas studies.
