Among the first batch of convicts released in the landmark national security trial of the "47 democrats" are four former lawmakers of Hong Kong who were jailed in three separate prisons.
Former Civic Party members Jeremy Tam and Kwok Ka-ki left Stanley Prison at around 5:45 a.m. in two private cars.
Gary Fan from Neo Democrats was also picked up by a private car and left Shek Pik Prison around dawn.
Claudia Mo, inside a vehicle, left the women's correctional institution at Lo Wu around the same time and returned to her residence on Repulse Bay Road at around 7 o'clock.
PHILIP BOWRING, Claudia Mo's Husband: "I'm very pleased that she's home but she's resting, so I can't really say anymore, so thank you very much for your concern and your interest and there's nothing more I can add. So thank you."
Reporter: "Will she come out and say a few words to us?"
PHILIP BOWRING, "No, I think for the time being, she won't be giving interviews. I'm sorry about that but as you know the circumstances. So, that's all I can say, so I'm sorry. Well, I mean, we'll see. She's only just come back, so we have to get used to it. She has to get used to life again in the outside world. And then probably we'll go to England at some point to see our grandchildren. But it's probably not till July or something like that."
Claudia Mo, Kwok Ka-ki, Jeremy Tam and Gary Fan were convicted of conspiracy to commit subversion.
In the landmark case, 45 of the 47 people charged were convicted over their involvement in the 2020 pro-democracy primary polls.
The court sentenced the four ex-lawmakers to 4 years and 2 months in prison after considering that the four had pleaded guilty and served the community in the past, marking the shortest sentence among the defendants.
Benny Tai, the leader of the polls, faced the heaviest sentence of 10 years' imprisonment.
