Xi Jinping calls for AI industry development in Shanghai

President Xi Jinping has made his first visit to Shanghai since November 2023.
During the visit, he urged the city to step up its Artificial Intelligence-related industries.

In Shanghai, President Xi Jinping inspected the professional incubation and acceleration lab in Xuhui District in the morning. More than 100 startups that develop artificial intelligence large models have set up offices there.
With the exponential development of AI technology, Xi said Shanghai, being China's main international financial hub, should strive to be at the forefront of AI development and governance.
He urged the city to expand its exploration of AI models and said more supportive policies for the technology should be rolled out.
Xi added artificial intelligence is a "young industry" and offers careers for young people, so it is time for the younger generation to showcase their talent.
The state leader also visited the New Development Bank and met with the BRICS bank's president Dilma Rousseff.
Xi said China will continue to support the bank's operation and development , and share its development experience with other member countries. He also noted the collective rise of the Global South as a pivotal force for safeguarding world peace and promoting common development.
President Xi said regardless of the international environment, the general direction of human progress will not change.
