Authorities looking ahead to second phase of non-plastic scheme after "successful" first phase

Secretary for Enviornment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan today said the first-phase regulation of disposable plastic tableware and other relevant products was successful. Tse said authorities have not confirmed the implemenatation date for the second phase of the scheme. The second phase prohibits the usage of plastic items, including cups, lids, containers.
Under the first-phase regulation, restaurants no longer provide disposable plastic tableware to customers. Speaking on a radio programme, Tse said members of the public developed a habit of bringing their own containers. While Tse rates the first part of the eco-friendly scheme a success, he says authorities will only roll out the next phase when suitable substitutes are found.
