The Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre says the city recorded some 8,760 phishing cases over the first ten months of 2026, marking a 75% increase compared with the previous year. The entity says roughly a quarter of the cases reported in October are related to e-commerce and e-payment platforms.

The centre says it has recently uncovered a phishing website posing as local retailer Fortress, which lured victims to complete surveys and place orders, with the promise of discounts, in an attempt to gain access to their payment information. With the mainland's "Double Eleven" shopping fest on the way, the centre has observed an increase of websites with fake ticketing and payment platforms. Citizens are reminded to remain alert and to step up caution before placing online orders.
