Polls have opened in Serbia in a parliamentary election that sees a student movement attempting to end populist leader Aleksandar Vucic's 14-year rule over the Balkan nation.
Vucic, who previously served as the country's president, is seeking to return to power as prime minister after Sunday's vote.
But his Serbian Progressive Party is facing a serious challenge from the recently formed Students' List, which started after student protests that were triggered by a train station tragedy two years ago.
Some political analysts believe with near total control over local media, Vucic is unlikely to concede, adding that the situation on election night will be unpredictable.
This as Students' List candidate Ilija Srdanovic went to cast his ballot in Serbia's second-largest city Novi Sad, stressing his wish for a record turnout and for the voting process to take place in a democratic atmosphere.
Some 6.4 million voters will determine the fate of the Balkan nation with the main contenders currently believed to be polling neck-and-neck.
