Tuen Mun Hospital has officially opened its new Neuroscience Centre, adopting the integrated same-floor service model to deliver one-stop, cross-specialty treatments for patients and trim treatment times.
Integrating neuroscience ward, acute stroke ward, advanced technology operating theatre and rehabilitation centre on the same floor, the centre can serve patients suffering from conditions such as strokes, epilepsy, and movement disorders more efficiently.
As the Hospital Authority's very first ward combining neurological inpatient and day-care services, it provides 44 beds, including four intensive care beds. The facility is also equipped with two epilepsy monitoring units, featuring 24-hour EEG monitoring equipment.
The centre has also introduced intraoperative MRI technology, allowing brain tumor patients to undergo scans during surgery without needing to be stitched up beforehand, effectively lowering the risk of infection.
The centre expects to launch further specialized services next year, covering neuro-oncology, neuropsychiatry and neurodegenerative diseases.
