Authorities have arrested two people suspected of stealing a gold necklace from a Tai Po jewellery store yesterday.
Sources say the pair had split the necklace in two and already sold one half of it.
The incident happened yesterday afternoon at a Chow Sang Sang jewellery store on Kwong Fuk Road, where a man entered the premises disguised as a customer.
The police said the man distracted the jewellery store staff while trying on a gold necklace before fleeing with the piece of jewellery.
Authorities noted they arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of theft this afternoon with the help of CCTVs, and arrested another 29-year-old woman this evening on suspicion of handling the stolen jewellery.
Reports say the stolen necklace has an estimated worth of 79,000 dollars, and was separated into two halves with one half having been sold to a Sha Tin jewellery store.
