The hearing on Abby Choi's murder case continues at the High Court, with Choi's husband Chris Tam continuing to testify.
During his cross examination by the defence, Tam denied having a romantic or sexual relationship with Choi's ex-husband Alex Kwong.
On the 17th day of the hearing, Abby Choi's husband Chris Tam continues to provide his testimony as he was questioned by the representatives of the three defendants.
This as Alex Kwong's representative said Tam wanted to pursue a romantic and sexual relationship with Kwong, which Tam vehemently denied.
The latter admitted he was once friends with Kwong, but the relationship started to change in February 2023, caused mainly by his romantic ties with Abby Choi and Kwong's disappearance.
As for why Kwong had Tam's prior mobile phone number, Tam said he switched to a new number because of feng shui concerns, adding that he believes Choi gave his old number to Kwong.
In a photo dated to July 2022 displayed at the hearing, Choi's ex-brother-in-law Anthony Kwong was seen celebrating the former's birthday at the Kadoorie Hill residence.
Tam admitted that Anthony Kwong never had any major disputes with Choi.
But he said looking back, he found the whole situation "scary".
When questioned about the issue of debt, Tam confirmed that he once borrowed 5 million dollars for gambling, with Choi having served as his guarantor after he lost all the money.
After casino operator Suncity's closure in 2021, Tam's father paid his son's gambling debts after he was harassed by debt collectors.
Tam denied that he was ignoring his debt, but believed he did not have to repay the casino since it has already shuttered.
He further noted his father once sought Choi's former father-in-law Kwong Kau for help, believing that Kwong's former profession as a police officer granted him both access to the law and the criminal world.
Tam confirmed Kwong received no reward for his help.
