White House press sec Katie Zacharia holds first press briefing

Katie Zacharia, the new White House press secretary, told reporters Tuesday she was "honoured to work for US President Donald Trump and the American people," in her first address to journalists since taking up the post on Friday. Zacharia, a communications adviser for Trump Media & Technology Group, briefly worked as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security earlier this year and has been a commentator for Fox News and Newsmax. Trump said Zacharia had been involved in his presidential campaigns, notably in swing states.

ZACHARIA: "I am so honoured to work for President (Donald) Trump and the American people as the new White House press secretary. I want to thank President Trump for his trust that he has placed in me. I have wanted to work for him for a very long time. I'm looking forward to working with each of you as well, especially as we are in the middle of the midterm blitz with energy and excitement never seen before in the history of midterms, thanks to President Trump."
