One of Hong Kong's top road cycling event has taken place this morning. The Hong Kong Cyclothon drew a record-breaking number of over 6,000 cyclists.

The 56-kilometre category featured a new route, passing through the newly opened

Central Kowloon Route for the first time.

The 56-kilometre event kicked off before dawn.

This year, the start and finish lines were moved to the West Kowloon Cultural District.

Sun Hung Kai Properties Executive Director Adam Kwok, who participated in the race, said the new location serves as a unique landmark that combines art, culture, commerce, and sports, offering a fresh experience for tourists and locals.

The extended route now covered five tunnels and three bridges, stretching across six districts including Yau Tsim Mong, Tsuen Wan, Kwai Tsing, and Sha Tin.

Cyclists rode through the Cheung Tsing Tunnel, Ting Kau Bridge, and Stonecutters Bridge.

Participants said riding on the highways offers an exceptional experience.

Many enjoyed the warm sunrise and beautiful scenery on the bridges, adding that they plan to join the event again next year.

Meanwhile, the new route passing through the Central Kowloon Route challenged even former

Hong Kong cycling team representative Sarah Lee.

Lee said as a former track cyclist, uphill climbs are difficult for her.

She added that the long downhill section inside the tunnel provides a good buffer, though the ride remains slightly tiring for a retired athlete.

The first batch of cyclists crossed the finish line

in West Kowloon about an hour and a half after the start.

Other events, including the 32-kilometre ride covering two tunnels and two bridges,as well as the CEO Charity and Celebrity Rides, followed shortly after.
