New Huanggang Port to begin operations as early as Monday morning

Sources say the new Huanggang Port will begin operations as early as Monday morning next week, with Hong Kong and Shenzhen authorities possibly announcing further details tomorrow.

Party Secretary of Guangdong Huang Kunming earlier made his way to the port building to conduct an inspection, stressing that the facility must ensure smooth operations.

This as an opening ceremony will be held two days before the port enters into official use.

Reports say a farewell ceremony could be held for the port's predecessor, with more details set to be announced on Friday.

The Guangdong party chief said central authorities are aiming to expand the facility's "collaborative inspection and joint clearance" system, adding that port personnel must do their utmost to ensure stable traffic between Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Immigration Department noted on social media it held deep discussions with its Shenzhen counterpart on how to smoothen the transition of services from the old to new port.
