A recent study shows one-in-five people in Hong Kong have suffered from urticaria, otherwise known as hives.

Around 65% say they have trouble sleeping and 60% say they feel anxious because of the skin condition.

A survey conducted between July and August of this year by the Hong Kong Allergy Association found more than half of its respondents suffered from hives for at least six weeks.

Around 35% of respondents suffered from the condition for over a year.

Urticaria is a common condition characterised by itchy, raised bumps on the skin.

The allergy association notes hives are rarely a result of allergic reactions, stressing they are usually related to autoimmune issues.
