Police in England evacuate homes near air base

Police have evacuated homes near an air base in England used by the US and arrested several men over suspected explosives offenses.

Gloucestershire Police say they are evacuating "a number of properties" in Whelford, western England.

This area is close to RAF Fairford, a base used by American forces during the war with Iran.

Police say several men have been detained on suspicion of offenses under the Explosives Act.

Army bomb-disposal experts are examining several vehicles. Residents were being taken to a nearby leisure centre.

Police said the situation is contained.
