Trump optimistic a deal to end Russia Ukraine war can be reached

US President Donald Trump struck an optimistic tone about reaching a deal to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, insisting, "We're going to make a deal."

Trump made the comments during a bilateral meeting with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings

in New York.

US President Donald Trump's optimism to end the war between Russia and Ukraine comes as Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he hopes the US can get Russia to come to the negotiating table, even as attacks from both sides keep escalating.

"Yes he (Donald Trump) said that he will do everything to help to end the war. I think that the most important moving that what really president can do including the things what I raised before today, that he can organise trilateral meeting where all the sensitive things leaders can raise and try to end the war.

(Reporter) So you are prepared to meet President Putin?

Oh I'm ready. I said it. I'm ready.

Sitting next to the Ukrainian president, Trump told reporters that he believes President Putin will meet with him and Zelenskyy.

'I know that he will meet. We've had a meeting already in Alaska. I think he'd do another one. He's willing to meet. He will he'd like to see the war end."

(Reporter) "With both you and President Zelenskyy?"

"I think they both want to see the war end, to be honest with you. It's time."

Putin is not scheduled to attend the annual UN General Assembly meeting this year. Asked about the possibility of Zelenskyy, Putin and Trump

meeting during the upcoming G20 gathering in Florida in December, Trump was noncommittal.

While in New York President Zelenskyy visited the 9/11 Memorial paying tribute to the victims of the September 11th attacks.

The Ukrainian president placed a bouquet next to a Ukrainian flag at the memorial.
