UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham welcomes French President

Emmanuel Macron as his first guest to

10 Downing street after moving into the residence.

The meeting follows Macron's meeting with King Charles

III on Wednesday, when the two heads of state viewed the

1,000-year-old Bayeux Tapestry on loan from France

at the British Museum.

“I'm very pleased today to welcome my first overseas visitor as prime

minister and it's so fitting that it is our nearest neighbour and close friend,

Emmanuel. On behalf of everyone here, Monsieur le President, can I

thank you for your huge personal gesture of goodwill, trust and friendship with

Britain in allowing the Bayeux Tapestry to be displayed here. It will, I

think I'm certain in saying this, it will lift so many lives,” Burnham says.

The Prime Minister’s Office says efforts to stop migrants crossing the English Channel

in small boats, as well as topics surrounding Ukraine will

feature at the top of the talk.
