Authorities seize vaccines in operation against unregistered WT1

The Department of Health has been targeting the unregistered so-called anti-cancer "WT1" vaccine that has been trending in recent days.

Authorities have seized more than 890 vaccines so far, but none were classifed as WT1s.

No residents have received the jab as of now.

This as health authorities warned against WT1 injections as the unregistered pharmaceutical product is still in its research phase.

The "Hong Kong Pacific Asia Medical Centre", which is suspected of offering the unregistered WT1 anti-cancer vaccines, remains operational as of this morning.

But several of the medical centre's staff were unable to enter the facility.

Over the last three days, the Department of Health searched 14 sites suspected of selling the unregistered vaccine.

Among the 890 vaccines seized, none were WT1s, with no individuals currently identified as having received its injection.

Assistant Director of Health Frank Chan said most of the pharmaceutical products consisted of vitamins or health injections containing amino acids.

He reminded residents to avoid the WT1 vaccine as the product is currently in its research phase, adding that there is currently no evidence supporting the vaccine's safe usage on humans.

Lawmaker David Lam from the Medical and Health Services constituency, meanwhile, said WT1 is categorised as a drug still undergoing clinical trials, and should not be accessible to the public.

This as some in the community raised concerns about the potential fraudulent nature of the WT1 or other so-called "anti-cancer" vaccines.

Lawmaker Chan Hoi-yan from the Election Committee stressed that scams of this nature must not be allowed to exist in the city.

She also questioned if authorities have taken action to monitor whether other unregistered pharmaceutical items have made their way into Hong Kong's pharmacies and online platforms.
