Pope Leo XIV arrives in the Italian port of Rimini after wrapping up his one-day tour at the tiny Republic of San Marino where he hails the nation state's century-old republican traditions and civic responsibility.
The pontiff addresses crowds at the annual Rimini Meeting in a Catholic cultural festival hosted by the Communion and Liberation movement on Saturday.
He warns against a growing international culture of confrontation and militarisation that "rearms minds, words and nations" and delivers a message of encouragement to the faithful, especially the youth, telling them they are a sign that the future is promising.
He says peace is built by people "who love to encounter one another and are not afraid to engage with one another."
The pope ends his day by celebrating Mass at the harbour of Rimini where housands gather despite the sweltering summer heat.
