Gazans salvage iron to build shelters

Residents in Gaza are salvaging iron bars from the rubble of destroyed buildings,

processing and reshaping the metal to build makeshift shelters,

bathrooms and household furniture.

This as a blockade continues to restrict the entry of construction materials

into the enclave.

In Gaza City, workers use hammers to break through the roofs of destroyed buildings

and extract iron from the rubble.

The work is difficult but has become a source of income amid

a lack of employment opportunities.

Israel has maintained restrictions on the entry of goods into Gaza

with aid and commercial supplies subject to Israeli controls and inspections.
