More residents expect to evacuate BC’s Okanagan as wildfires continue

Another 10,000 residents in Canada's British Columbia have been told

to prepare for possible evacuation as more than 100 wildfires

continue to rip across Central Interior and the Okanagan.

The deadly wildfire has claimed the life of an 80-year-old resident near

the Okanagan Lake, where hundreds of homes have been destroyed as the fire

burned toward Summerland, a community roughly 300 kilometre east of Vancouver,

where 20,000 had already evacuated last week.

More than 100 firefighters from Mexico have joined the close to 100-strong local

fire crew as authorities deploy helicopters to battle flames.

Fire officials say the blaze shows "quite significant growth" in some areas overnight

even without strong winds and crews are working around-the-clock to establish

control lines and make it safe for evacuated residents to return home.
