
In the backdrop of Russia-Ukraine war, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, one of the oldest and most sacred landmarks in Eastern Orthodox Christianity, marked the 975th anniversary of its founding, this year.
The Dormition Cathedral was set ablaze in June 2026 as Russia bombarded Ukraine's biggest cities, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
In a statement, UNESCO condemned the attack, which it said reportedly caused significant damage to the exterior and interior of the Dormition Cathedral.
