Girl in serious condition after contracting H1 virus

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a severe influenza A involving a five-year-old girl. The child is in serious condition.

The girl was sent to the Accident and Emergency Department of Tuen Mun Hospital on Saturday after developing symptoms such as fever, chills and cough with sputum. She was admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit for treatment. The girl's respiratory specimen tested positive for H1 virus, and her clinical diagnosis was influenza A infection complicated with sepsis.

Preliminary investigation shows that the girl had received the 2025/26 sesaonal influenza vaccine and did not travel abroad during the incubation period.
