Amber Heat Stress at Work Warning

The Amber Heat Stress at Work Warning has been in force for most of the day.

The Labour Department issued the Amber Heat Stress at Work Warning at 7am.

While the Hong Kong Observatory recorded the highest temperature of 36.9 degrees Celsius in the afternoon the Heat Stress at Work Warning remains at the lowest level.

The department will only issue the Red warning when the Hong Kong Heat Index reaches 32 but below 34. The index factors in not only temperature, but also humidity, airflow and solar radiation levels.

A labour union says authorities have issued nearly 200 heat stress warnings so far this year, but all of them are Amber. The union thinks authorities should lower the threshold for higher warning issues.
