Iran: Temporary Hormuz route deal “very close”

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Saturday Iran and Oman are "very close" to an agreement on the designation of a temporary route for maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the official news agency IRNA.

Following the talks' conclusion, the new route will be designated, he said in an address to reporters.

He added the strait's reopening, however, hinges on other conditions, including compensation by the United States for its violations of a peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Tehran and Washington in June.

Araghchi said Iran no longer considers the previous traffic separation scheme (TSS) or route in the strait acceptable for vessel traffic, emphasising the need to designate a new TSS.

This as US Vice President JD Vance tells Fox News, Vance in an interview that talks with Iran had made some progress over the past few days, and that the United States is still in "middle of the game" regarding the situation in Iran.
