Thai teen gunman dead after a shooting rampage at home and school

A high school shooting in Thailand's Nonthaburi province today has led to the death of several people, mainly teachers.

The shooter, who was a student, is now also dead.At least 15 people are known to be hospitalized.

The 14-year-old shooter had killed his grandparents before moving onto the school.

He fired 26 rounds and another 34 rounds of ammunition was found at the grandparents' home, where they were killed.

The shooting went on for about an hour before he shot himself. He died on the way to hospital.

The teenager lived with his grandparents and was an avid gamer, according to Thailand's deputy interior minister Polapee Suwanchawee.

Meanwhile, a teacher at the school said the boy was not known to be aggressive, describing him as a "good kid with good study records".

Crowds have gathered outside the school alongside students mourning the lives lost.

The Royal Thai Police released a statement saying they are conducting an investigation into the shooting to clarify the cause and proceed with the judicial process. They expressed condolences to the victims' families.

It is understood that as of now, 15 people have been hospitalised for injuries and two are in critical condition.

This marks the second school shooting in Thailand this year, the last one also being a high school shooting where a 17-year-old stole a gun from the police in southern Thailand and opened fire.

While gun ownership is restricted in Thailand, people can still legally and illegally acquire guns without much trouble. In fact, Thailand has the highest rates of gun ownership in all of southeast Asia.

Today's incident further adds to the public's anxieties regarding the country's gun laws.
