Trump tries to cut birthright citizenship again

US President Donald Trump is trying to dismantle birthright citizenship

once again, this time by signing two executive actions on immigration.

He stated that one will limit the number of people eligible for

citizenship after being born in the US, while the other by increases

restrictions on what Trump calls "birth tourism" making it harder for

visitors to the US who want to obtain visas to give birth while in the

country.

Trump's first attempt back in June, which was rejected by the Supreme

Court, was an executive order declaring that children born to people

residing in the US illegally or temporarily would not be considered

American citizens.

The administration was immediately sued by opponents as birthright

citizenship is part of the 14th Amendment, which states that anyone

born in the US is a citizen, with very limited exceptions.

The executive order was blocked by several lower courts and never

took effect.
