The United Nations warns of escalating risks to civilians

as attacks on urban areas in Ukraine intensify.

Our colleagues from the office for the Coordination of Humanitarian

Affairs tell us that over the weekend, large scale attacks on urban

centres and frontline regions killed and injured many civilians

and caused widespread damage to civilian infrastructure.

In the capital Kyiv, an attack on August 1st killed at least nine

people and injured more than 30 others. The regions of

Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Odesa,

Sumy were also heavily impacted. This is according to what

authorities are telling our colleagues on the ground.

Russia attacks struck the Ukrainian city of Sumy overnight,

killing three people and injuring others, regional officials said.

Two children and an elderly woman were killed in the strikes.

Officials said six guided aerial bombs hit civilian infrastructure

in the city.

On Monday, Russian planes dropped eight powerful glide bombs

in a span of 90 minutes on residential districts of the southern

Ukraine city of Zaporizhzhia, killing one person and wounding
