There may be a typhoon over the weekend. The Observatory has indicated that a tropical cyclone appears to be forming over the sea east of the Phillipines. It is expected to enter the South China Sea and move towards the coast of Guangdong.

Leung Ho-ming, scientific officer of the Observatory, said the convective cloud clusters currently over the eastern sea of the Phillipines are a low pressure area.

It is expected that this low-pressure area will gradually develop into a tropical cyclone, enter the northerm part of the South China Sea later this week, and move towards the coast of Guangdong over the weekend while gradually intensifying. However, its exact landfall location remains uncertain.

Citizens are advised to be aware that from Saturday to Sunday, there will be squally showers and thunderstorms, with fairly strong winds and swells at sea.

The Observatory also noted that the subtropical ridge is gradually extending over southeastern China. In Hong Kong today, there will be sunny periods with a few showers.

Looking ahead to the next one or two days, it will be mainly fine and extremely hot.
